AUCKLAND, 12 MARCH 2020 – The connected, highly-contented and fun-to-drive all-new Ford Puma will soon arrive in local showrooms.

With the Ford Pass Connect embedded modem, in addition to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone compatibility with wireless smartphone charging[i], the all-new Ford Puma combines striking design with smart, user-friendly technology that makes life simpler and more convenient for New Zealand.

“The Puma and Escape both show the desire for charismatic, innovative models with a high level of standard equipment, from safety and driver assist technology, for discerning customers who demand both style and substance,” said Simon Rutherford, Managing Director, Ford New Zealand. “As an advanced, connected urban SUV, the Puma will bring smart, ‘life hack’ innovations to customers, like the Ford Pass Connect embedded modem.”

Like the forthcoming Ford Escape, the Puma will be sourced from Europe, with New Zealand customers benefiting from the access to advanced models and features from Ford’s global vehicle portfolio.

The bold, distinctive exterior design of the Puma sets it apart from a growing SUV crowd. With an expressive face, including instantly recognisable daytime-running lamps, Puma’s smooth sculpted lines, low sloping roofline and pronounced wheels arches are teamed with a sleek silhouette for an athletic yet premium look.

Puma and Escape will join the Ford Everest and Ford Endura as part of a full complement of SUVs in Ford showrooms. Ford’s comprehensive SUV range offers New Zealand greater, more purposeful buying choices, reflecting the demand for SUVs and matching New Zealand’s diverse lifestyles.

Puma line up: elegant, athletic, premium

Powered by the advanced, award-winning EcoBoost powertrain, the 2020 Puma line-up delivers a new-generation of simple, elegant yet sophisticated choices for customers, with a fun-to-drive ethos and characterful nature in the DNA of every Puma.

The 2020 Ford Puma line up will consists of:

  • Ford Puma (FWD)
  • Ford Puma ST-Line (FWD)

The Puma exterior is distinguished by 17-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels, which sets the style direction for the detailed yet cohesive exterior aesthetic. Up front, Chrome grille elements emboss the front grille and fog light surrounds, adjacent to the LED headlights, with these elements continued for the side skirts.

Fittingly applied across the Puma range is the award-winning 1.0-litre turbocharged EcoBoost three-cylinder engine, teamed with a seven-speed automatic transmission and offered exclusively in front-wheel drive. With 92kW and 170Nm, the Puma’s EcoBoost engine includes high pressure direct fuel injection, twin-independent variable cam timing and fuel saving cylinder deactivation.

Developed by Ford of Europe, the EcoBoost engine is an eleven-time winner of International Engine of the Year awards.

The versatility of Puma is also evident as the first urban SUV from Ford to be equipped with Selectable Drive Modes. Five Drive Modes can be selected: Normal, Sport, Eco, Slippery and Trail, with a unique graphic display in the instrument cluster indicating the chosen mode:

  • Normal: For effortless everyday driving
  • Sport: Created for spirited driving
  • Eco: Prioritises maximum efficiency
  • Slippery: Designed to bring increased confidence on surfaces with reduced grip, such as wet roads, wet grass, snow and ice
  • Trail: Intended to help maintain momentum on soft, deformable surfaces like a sandy beach, paddocks or powdery dirt road

Puma also offers a comfortable, user-centric interior that delivers liveability and convenience with generous passenger space and cargo capacity. The Puma has a 2588mm wheelbase enabling generous legroom for all occupants in both front and second rows.
